1932 ROLLS-ROYCE 20/25HP SEDANCA DE VILLE, COACHWORK BY PARK WARD. The introduction of a smaller Rolls-Royce - the 20hp - in 1922 enabled the company to cater for the increasingly important owner-driver market that appreciated the quality of Rolls-Royce engineering but did not need a car as large as a 40/50hp Ghost or Phantom. The Twenty proved eminently suited to town use yet could cope admirably with Continental touring when called upon. Its successor, the 20/25hp, introduced in 1929, up-dated the concept with significant improvements, featuring an enlarged (from 3,127 to 3,669cc) and more-powerful cross-flow version of the Twentys six-cylinder overhead-valve engine. The latters increased power allowed the bespoke coachbuilders greater freedom in their efforts to satisfy a discerning clientele that demanded ever larger and more opulent designs. Apart from the revised engine, early 20/25 chassis were identical to those of the last 20s, both models being produced during 1929. This cars accompanying documentation records that it was ordered in October 1932 by H C Nelson Ltd of Jermyn Street, London W1 for their customer Mrs Grunall, and delivered to Park Wards Willesden factory for completion on 12th December 1932. The stated use was Town and Touring in England and France. The 1949 continuation logbook shows Lt Colonel Austin Knight as the registered keeper in 1949, with two subsequent owners up to 1983, while the accompanying Swansea V5 records four keepers up until 1982. Throughout 1988 and early 1989 30,822 was spent on mechanical restoration, as detailed in invoices included in the sale. MoT certificates have been retained since December 1987, showing that the vehicle had only covered only 6,000 miles between 1987 and 2004. JU 1591 has participated in the Club de lAutos Paris-Deauville rally up to 2002. Finished in black/cream with cream leather interior, the car is presented in good condition throughout and has been maintained by its current owner, a certified Rolls Royce engineer (copy certificate available upon sale) who purchased it in 2015, however it has remained in the in the same family since 2004. She currently has 5 registered owners but is now exempt from requiring an MOT. Should you have any questions, please contact the seller.
