Concept cars have allowed designers and engineers to explore new materials and technologies. Many of the innovations developed during these projects are included in the final models. Phantom Coupé is no exception, taking much inspiration from the 101EX concept car.

This experimental model was a modern interpretation of a classic grand touring coupé. Designed for those who appreciate the subtle virtues and sensuality of the finer things in life. The connoisseur who enjoys leading a sporting life as well as the high life: an individual who lives to the full.

101EX launched in 2006, and was the precursor to the original Phantom Coupé. It offered romantic reflection with some of the most innovative modern engineering and sophisticated dynamics available, making the rigours of a long journey a gratifying indulgence.

It is the attention to design and crafting of detail that give Phantom Coupé character. A combination of rosewood and fine English oak is used in the straight grain veneers. The seating has a simple and restrained elegance born of clean forms. And in the rear is a cosier version of the curved seat that has proved so popular in Phantom. It creates a sociable ambience some even call it a love seat yet it is comfortable and spacious enough for a cross-continental jaunt. The architecture of the cabin implies movement and automotive strength. Echoing its purposeful lines and stance is the dramatic pillarless side window, highlighted by the wooden framing of the windows a modern interpretation of the coach builders craft. The traditional steering wheel and upper fascia pay homage to the aluminium space frame technology of the coachwork. While the bold curves of the polished metal tread plates demonstrate the heights to which engineering is taken in this Rolls-Royce.

The Rolls-Royce Phantom Coupé made its automotive debut on 6th March 2008 at the Geneva International Auto Show. A limited number of these cars were built and right from the outset, it was clear that the traditions of excellence which was synonymous to marque were seen throughout the new Phantom Coupé. A huge amount of attention to detail was paid to incorporate those wonderful art deco flowing lines and iconic suicide doors.
