I purchased (top money) a pretty much completed Riley Elf Mk3 conversion back in the spring previous owner had replaced the original engine with a mildly tuned 1275cc DVLA approved - with twin 1.5 SUs and a close ratio gearbox. Also professionally fitted a Rev. counter, Amp meter & Vacuum gauge & fitted Cooper S spec front discs.

I then set about adding what I consider enhancements to this brilliantly designed car. These comprised the following:
Two Microcell Contour adjustable front seats (beautifully designed & built to a high spec.) A matching pair of Lucas 576 spot & fog front lamps / A Lucas 576 centre fixing rear reversing lamp / A pair of Cooper S rally front headlamp covers & fixings / A tan bonnet strap / A stick on front number plate / An old English white bonnet stripe to match roof colour designed for rally Cooper S / An original 60's Moto Lita woodrim steering wheel / A new 1.5 litre Lifeline fire extinguisher / A new set of rubber floor mats / A new set of Quick Fit classic inertia seat belts with chrome buckles & Britax stickers. / An original Lucas NOS battery cut-out switch / A new Halfords 3 year guarantee battery / A TEX stainless drivers door mirror / A rally style petrol filler cap / A new set of NGK spark plus and caps & a set of bumblebee leads / A new distributor cap, rotor arm, points & condenser / A new American Flamethrower coil plus original fitted as spare / A NOS kn
uckle designed map reading lamp. Minilite wheels with Falken tyres / switch extensions.
The car has been comprehensively wax oiled with Silver Hook Wax coating & Motip Anti-rust coating suspension parts have been painted with POR 15. with sills & front valance stripped and repainted.
I have collated all prior paperwork into 4 comprehensive files one is a completed Riley Elf Workshop manual a second collates a fully comprehensive list in date order of all invoices and work undertaken prior to my ownership which is significant the third is a file containing a number of original Riley Elf coloured brochures , original owners manuals and photos of the original restoration lastly, a legal file containing the V5 which details the new engine transplant 20 plus old MOT certificates dating back to 1980 plus a current 12 month MOT Insurance docs and all invoices / bills relating to the items I have purchased & fitted.
As you are no doubt aware the Riley Elf was BMCs answer to an up-market Mini and is just that apart from the addition of a boot and dashboard enhancements. Of the 30K Elf units built only 347 remain registered with the DVLA so this is now a pretty rare car in comparison to the Mini! This car is pretty much the current equivalent of a Mini Cooper S for less than half the price - and although it will not have the same cachet as the S its performance is equal if not improved! Mk1 S now rarely come to market & when they do the prices are staggering - one is currently on the market for £69k!! - what's more, the Riley scores heavily on rarity & performance!
