RELIANT SCIMITAR - £2,000

This lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, Online Auction - 16th December on Tuesday the 16th of December. Background: The Scimitar was Reliant’s flagship model line running from 1968 through to 1986. The original coupe bodied ‘GT’ was unveiled in 1964 before the most popular ‘GTE’ shooting brake version was released in 1968. A four-seater convertible, the ‘GTC’, was produced in smaller numbers from 1980. All models had a fibreglass body and Ford engines, originally unveiled with the Zephyr six-cylinder before moving to the Essex and Cologne V6. Over 14,000 ‘GTE’ models were produced across five versions. The Car: This one owner example was purchased new from Hamble Motors of Southampton in 1978 and spent its first year in Jersey wearing its original registration, UOX 149S, before being registered with the Jersey registration J37076. The owner, a long-haul pilot, used the car regularly between flights and by 1990 the car had driven 62000 miles. The history file includes the original 1978 sales receipt from Hamble Motors and Jersey logbook. Invoicing on file shows a considerable amount of restoration work being carried out on the car through the 1990s.. The work includes, but is not limited to, a full respray in its original brown colour with the addition of a gold pinstripe, a chassis repaint with ‘Body Protect’ and sealer, and a rebuild of the 3l V6 engine including the fitting of high speed cams. Based on the MOT history, the car has only covered around 23000 miles since this rebuild. The owner had intended to continue to use the car more regularly having extensively restored it however living and working overseas prevented continuous use. The car has been stored in the owner’s barns for 23 years with minimal mileage in that time, only 1 notable journey being a 7-mile drive to another barn! The owner notes that the car was driven into storage with no work taking place on the car whilst there and is complete. The car presents well overall with the interior being in exceptional condition for its period of storage with the beige cloth seating showing no tears and all button backs present. The dashboard is complete and the vinyl surfaces and door cards are in excellent condition. The brown paintwork does have bubbling all round as is shown in the photographs but appears free from any scratches or physical damage and benefits from a gold pinstripe which was applied during its older respray. Whilst mechanically complete, the car has not been driven for at least 10 years and will require being collected on a trailer with recommissioning before returning to the road. We have heard the engine running briefly and it started with no issues. The history file shows the engine having a full rebuild in 1992 including a rebore and cylinder head re-face. The owner informs us that the camshaft kit fitted at that point were fast road spec, giving more torque for a slightly rougher idle. This car represents an ideal project for an enthusiast with a time-warp interior and one ownership history. Location: Staffordshire Seller: Private
