RELIANT REGAL SUPERVAN – “ONLY FOOLS & HORSES” - £Auction

Whether on the silver-or-small screen, a characters' transportation often becomes a character in and of itself. There are few greater cases of this than in Only Fools and Horses. Despite the main series ending over 30 years ago, it continues to attract massive popularity; the much-loved British television programme centres on traders Del Boy, and his half-brother Rodney, as they attempt, to varying degrees of success, to get rich. They go about their ventures behind the wheel of a Reliant Supervan III, like the one you see here, which in hindsight feels destined to become an icon in its own right. Like the DeLorean in Back to the Future, or the yellow-and-red Fiat Cinquecento in The Inbetweeners, (or indeed, Herbie's titular Volkswagen Beetle) unremarkable cars are often made remarkable when given the spotlight. In the case of the Reliant, many owners and fans of the programme have since created replicas of Del Boy's chariot - of which this is one.

This charming example was registered in 1969 and owned until our vendors' father purchased it in 2010. Sadly, he passed away earlier this year, and his son and daughter have entrusted us with the sale of his beloved Reliant. The van has benefitted from a brand-new battery, but has not been used recently, having been stored indoors for a number of years. Today the vehicle needs some attention to its bodywork - some damage recently occurred to the offside front bumper - however the interior presents well. Offered without reserve, this is an opportunity to acquire a small-screen legend, and one that has been in long-term ownership. Consigned by Charlie McCreery.
