1980 PORSCHE 928 - £28,928
Porsche 928. Manual. Pre-S model. No sunroof. Pasha trim. Leather dash.
The car drives wonderfully, with plenty of power. This is no lazy V8; it pulls hard with strong torque from low revs but you can enjoy the full rev range as power builds all the way to 6000rpm, the manual box making accessing this power much easier than the more common autos. I have had four 928 over the years and this is by far the quickest 4.5 litre I have owned and easily the most original. 928 prices are a bit varied so you may wonder how I came to my asking price. (a) RHD Pre-S manuals are rare and most owners do not sell (b) the car is very original and Pre-S models with no spoilers and the classic early teledial wheels show the 928 in its purest form (c) it has had significant expenditure (d) it is 'oven-ready' to enjoy and should only need routine maintenance over the next few years (though I cannot guarantee this). There may be cheaper 928 for sale but they would be a false economy in my view as they have either not been cared for correctly or have been so under-used that parts are very likely to need replacing once the car is back in use.
First registered on 15th May 1980 to Mr Roy Dashwood of Norwich.
The 2nd owner acquired the car in 1995 at 93,000 miles.
In 2012, the 3rd owner sold the car at 98,000 miles. The new owner had considerable work done by Porsche specialists RPM, including engine out for work as required, new exhaust and 4.7 litre cams.
I acquired the car in early 2015 at 102,000 miles. The mileage now is 107,000 miles.
Recent work by Porsche specialists GT One and Paul Anderson, includes new tyres, professionally refurbished Teledial wheels, new radiator, new shock absorbers and new cambelt (December 2016). The MOT runs until January 2019.
The paintwork has been refreshed at some point but there is no record of when. It is in very good order. I recently had the tailgate glass removed and the tailgate painted as they do leak and rust can form in the cavities. All areas were treated and the glass correctly sealed.
The rear luggage cover is NOT the original. The original fabric for the luggage covers suffer from sun damage and perish. I have replaced with a bespoke made leather cover, complete with Porsche script.
The original dealer upgrade National Panasonic radio cassette is fitted. This was a very expensive upgrade in 1980. It is NOT operational but I have not attempted to get it working.
The air conditioning is not operational. I had the pump removed, as I do not use AC, but have retained the pump should a future owner wish to recommission the AC.
Early RHD 928 manuals are very rare; even more so in highly original condition with a manual gearbox. The Pre-S 928 were only sold in the UK from 1978 to 1981. In my view they are unrated and under-priced, considering how few survive. They are rarer than the much celebrated GTS, which fetch up to £80K. Early 928 show great investment potential, coupled with being a very usable and quick classic car.
The car can be viewed in London SW6. Or if easier, in Esher, Surrey.
Porsche GB Certificate of Authenticity, original handbook, service record and wallet are with the car. Original spare key. Car is taxed, with MOT and in use.
