1990 MINI COOPER RSP - £14,995
motodrome are pleased to offer this superb 1990 Rover Mini Cooper RSP, finished in Green with White roof. The Cooper RSP was introduced in 1990 to return the Cooper to the Mini range, as none had been produced since 1971. The car was the brainchild of the original creator of the Mini Cooper, John Cooper. He'd been selling Cooper conversions in boxes to mainly Japanese customers and he did a conversion on a few Mini Rose/Sky and Flames in 998cc form. Graham Day, the Rover MD at the time, asked Cooper to come into the factory to tell him that they liked what he'd been doing, and what did he think about a production model. The result was that the Mini was sent to Rover Special Products and they decided to put the MG Metro 1275cc engine in with the Mini 30 type interior and a few special other bits This became the Mini Cooper RSP. 1650 RSP Coopers were built, 600 going to other countries like Japan, Germany and South Africa, while the remaining 1050 stayed in Britain An original UK car, this is a genuine late-production RSP as evinced by it’s ‘BAD’ prefix on the VIN number, and the 12 2 AF engine number prefix This one is fitted with the correct alloys and colour-coded arches, front spotlamps, RC40 exhaust, upgraded front seats, walnut dash, sports steering wheel, new black carpets replacing the original red, alloy door furniture, and a more modern stereo system. This one soldiered on as a road car until 2014, at which time it came off the road awaiting restoration. It underwent a full engine and gearbox rebuild (with new clutch) and partial body rebuild with new panels in 2020, before being sold as an unfinished project to the last owner. Said last owner commissioned Bowron Motorcare in Hemel Hempstead to complete the restoration, including a full respray and interior refurbishment, changing the colour from the original red to Racing Green, and the results speak for themselves – it’s exceptional. It’s done minimal mileage since completion in June 2023, hence the engine is still bedding in. The current odometer reading is 86000. We have a big sheaf of bills for the restoration. Comes with MOT to June 2024 (no advisories) and 6 months warranty on sale. A great classic Mini Cooper that drives just as well as it looks – I really like it. Being the first ‘Rover’ Mini Cooper, these RSP’s are highly collectable On our own website, you’ll find our usual 2 comprehensive videos – walkaround and driving, which form part of the description based near Henley on Thames, viewing by prior appointment
