1979 MINI 1000 Wood & Pickett conversion Webasto roof - £2,995 OVNO
Welcome to my Advert of my 1979 Austin Mini 1000 in solid brown, with Wood and Pickett Webasto/vinyl roof conversion, front bullbar, and rear opening windows. Complete with red vin tag conversion plate.
The car is a Matching numbers car in original, unmodified condition and is a complete car. At some point it has had a minor front shunt and the front panel has been bent where the bull bar is attached (see pictures). The car also had a Wood and Pickett wooden dash board which was unfortunately stolen one Sunday when my cousin was at church.
The car will also become Tax and MOT exempt from 26/01/2020 from what I understand! The cars as old as me!
Known as Yogi to the family, he was bought for my cousin on 14/09/1988 as her first car when she passed her test. It was then insured for her brother when he passed but not transferred into his name, and later garaged and SORN in roughly 1992 when he got his next car.
I rescued it out of their garage in August 2014 with the intention of doing a full restoration however my life circumstances have changed and I can no longer complete this ambition.
Photos were taken when I got the car out of my Aunts garage (first time hed had been in daylight since he was parked up) and since then all I have managed to do is remove the interior carpet which was in poor condition and the vinyl roof which was peeling away (again see pics). I have wired up a battery and all the lights/electrics work - however the alternator is seized and the water pump doesnt look too clever, so I have never attempted starting it.
The front floor pans have been welded/repaired at some point but the rear are in great condition as is the boot area. The roof and gulleys are in great condition as is the bonnet and boot lid, however the doors are rusting at the bottom as are the wings. I think also the sills will need attention along with the A pillars. My intention was to strip the car and sand blast it to go from there. All the glass is original and intact and the rear screen is heated. The interior, door cards etc are all there. Some of the door furniture will need replacing as will the seat covers. The roof lining is intact and would probably clean up. The Webasto roof opened smoothly and effortlessly the first time we tried it - as shown in the pictures.
The mileage is just about to tick over to 33000, and is original - however through the process of time my Aunt and cousin have lost the accompanying paperwork for the car. I have the V5 present and in my name, and I am the third registered owner in 40 years.
The car was still garaged at my home where it has stayed since I got it here. Unfortunately I have had to take the car out of the garage now as I needed the garage space when sorting through my late fathers effects. It is covered and secure but been out now for a few months. Tyres only go flat at the bottom. Roof works perfectly and car is complete. Would make a lovely appreciating classic for the right person with the time. I will be truly sorry to part with Yogi, but I have another project which will be a drain on my time, but will give my family more quality time together when complete (a boat!) so Yogi needs to go to another family who will restore him to his former glory. I have great memories of being taken out driving around with the roof open!
Car is available for viewing, but please arrange for daylight times as my garage doesnt have electric.
I also have a Haynes restoration manual and a collection of mini world magazines that can go with the car if reserve is met, and buyer wants them.
I have been advised what he is realistically worth as it stands so have set a reasonable price. Im in no hurry to sell so wont accept any silly offers, but would be open to sensible ones.
