1981 MG MGB - £POA
In 1979, British Leyland decided to produce a special version of the MGB to commemorate the end of its production. The MGB Limited Edition was introduced in the United States in 1979 and in the UK in 1980, serving as a farewell to this iconic sports car. Features and Specifications The Limited-Edition models were distinguished by several unique features: Exterior: In the US, the Limited Edition was available only in black with silver body stripes, giving it a distinctive appearance. In the UK, it came in both black and bronze. The cars also featured special 14-inch alloy wheels with MG hub center appliqués, a Limited-Edition badge, and front air dam. Interior: The interiors were equipped with leather seats, a special steering wheel, and a plaque denoting the car's Limited-Edition status. Mechanics: While mechanically similar to the standard MGBs, the Limited-Edition models were equipped with front and rear anti-roll bars and a heavier-duty suspension for improved handling. Production Numbers 6,668 Limited Edition MGBs were produced, with 1,000 for the UK market 580 GTS and 421 Roadsters and the remaining for export, mainly to the US. This limited production run has made the Limited-Edition models particularly sought after by collectors. Significance and Legacy The MGB Limited Edition is significant for several reasons: End of an Era: It marked the end of nearly two decades of continuous production for the MGB, which had become a symbol of British sports cars. Collector’s Item: Due to its limited production and unique features, the Limited Edition has become a collector’s item, valued for its historical importance and distinctive characteristics. Historical Context: The MGB Limited Edition was produced during a challenging time for the British automotive industry, reflecting both the legacy of British sports car manufacturing and the economic realities of the era. The MGB Limited Edition serves as a nostalgic reminder of a classic era in automotive history, embodying the charm and appeal of British sports cars while marking the end of a significant chapter in the story of MG. This Car With ONLY 9256 documented miles, this must be one of the most original cars, the only change was the wire wheels to the original LE GKN wheels from wires.
