Diesel, Sport, 5 speed manual. I have always had a soft spot for the early W202’s, the pre-Sept 1995 models with the square buttons from the W201 & W124’s are getting thin on the ground. I bought it last year whilst on a lock-down W202 frenzy, well 3 W202’s anyway. I had great plans to get out and about with it, but the continued lock down and having a C36 AMG and (at the time a C43 AMG too), it was often left behind. Originally supplied by Mertrux Mercedes in Derby, it is believed to have originally been their dealer demonstrator. Early Sports are quite scarce and easily outnumbered by the Classic and Elegance models, which were both less expensive when new. While the 95hp, 4 cylinder 2.2D 16v engine will never rip up it's tyres, it makes progress well and will happily cruise in the outside lane without getting in anyone’s way. Recent matching Good Year tyres all around, new discs and pads all around, new clutch master and slave cylinder and a full service. MoT to August 2022. Structurally, it is very sound and not the pile of ferrous oxide that 90’s MB’s can be. It has recently had a service with genuine MB parts. Bodily it is presentable and shiny, it is not immaculate. Being brutal and honest on some panel edges an enthusiastic previous owner has polished through to the primer, not overly noticeable. Small scab on the O/S rear arch and on the front wing arches. You do need to be up close to see these and some sellers would just put it down to vehicle age/patina. I would rather work on the principle, you may have travelled several hundred miles to view, I don’t wish to have a “you didn’t tell me about this” conversation. It does have a factory fitted sunroof, which requires the cables replacing. All in all, a presentable, early W202. Economical enough if you were seeking a retro-daily driver and clean enough not to embarrass itself at a Cars and Coffee meet.
