Bob bought this car back in 2011 and set about straight away to restore the car to its former glory. It had been sitting parked up for some 20 years before Bob set about the recommissioning.
There are lots of receipts youll see in the paperwork of the various parts, this was a full restoration that included an engine rebuild. Importantly, the car was restored back to its factory Dark Blue colour, what a colour that is.
After having owned the car and enjoyed it post restoration, the time has now come for Bob to sell. Bob sadly suffered a stroke 4 years ago and so finds the car hard to drive now, hence the reason for sale.
Bob restored this car and put it back to its original colour, dark blue, a great looking car.
Wheels & Tyres
15 wire wheels, and wrapped in Vredestein Sprint Classics all around. The wheels look great, chrome in good condition, the tyres the same too. Take a look at the images for a closer look.
The car had a windows out respray as part of the restoration, and any bodywork issues were remedied as part of this. Looking at the car now, there is a bit of surface rust visible on the underside, but generally speaking the car looks great. There is an unfortunate dent on the drivers door, take a look at the video and photos to see all the detail.
The car was returned to its original colour of dark blue, it looks great in this colour. The finish and colour of the paint is even across all the panels. There is some scratching visible on the scuttle near the windscreen wipers, along with some bubbling on the bonnet near one of the louvered vents. View the video review to see the condition in detail.
Glass and Trim
Trim on the car looks great, it looks like most of it must have been replaced as part of the restoration (invoices for parts included in the gallery). The glass on the car seems to suffer from scratches on a few panes, take a look at the images and video review for a closer look.
Finished in a light grey leather, the interior looks very smart on this Series 2 E-Type.
Seats and Carpets
The seats and carpets are finished in a similar light grey colour. The carpets were replaced as part of the restoration, the seats look in good condition too. Take a look at the images for the detail.
The dashboard on the car looks in keeping with the rest of the interior, very smart. All the dials look good, very legible and not a lot of wear like you might expect on a car of this age.
Steering Wheel / Gear Stick
The steering wheel and gear stick on this car look to be original, showing some signs of wear as captured in the video review.
Bob took us on a very short drive to show the car in action.
Engine and Gearbox
The 4.2L straight six engine burst in to life with no issue. Bob commissioned an engine rebuild as part of the restoration, and the car features a manual gearbox.
Suspension and Brakes
With the fact that Bob finds the car difficult to drive now, we only went on a very short drive. You can see from the underside photos and the restoration images that the suspension was overhauled as part of the work. As the car hasnt been used regularly, the brake servo is not working correctly and will need to be fixed by the new owner. Take a look at the images of the underside to see the suspension.
A very short drive just to stretch the cars legs a little and see it in motion.
Electrics and Other
Bob informs us that the electrical items on the car are working as they should do.
Bob bought this car back in 2011 and set out on restoration project to bring it up to the standard we see today. Included in the sale is a Jaguar Heritage certificate to show the car was resprayed to the original colour and other elements such as the engine and gearbox maintained in the original specification. Importantly this is a UK RHD car too. The car sat parked up for 20 years before Bob bought it, and so there is very little paperwork from the previous owners etc.
