The Jaguar E-Type or the Jaguar XK-E for the North American market was manufactured by Jaguar Cars Ltd between 1961 and 1975. Its combination of beauty, high performance, and competitive pricing established the marque as an icon of 1960s motoring. At a time when most cars had drum brakes, live rear axles, and mediocre performance, the E-Type sprang on the scene with 150 mph and a sub-7 second 0-60 time, monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, independent front and rear suspension, and unrivaled looks. The E-Type was based on Jaguar's D-Type racing car which had won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three consecutive years (1955-1957) and, as such, it employed the racing design of a body tub attached to a tubular framework, with the engine bolted directly to the framework.

The Series 2 introduced a number of design changes, largely due to U.S. design legislation. The most distinctive exterior feature is the absence of the covered headlights, which affected several other imported cars. Unlike other cars, this retrograde step was applied worldwide for the E-Type, not just to Americans living under the authority of the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration.

This particular vehicle was ordered from British Leyland Motors, Inc. in New York. Built in the Jaguar factory in Browns Lane, Coventry, United Kingdom, on 16th September 1970, the car left the factory for its long maiden voyage to New York. We are unable to identify its original owner, but we do know that from the indepth history file we have, that the car was owned by Mr Clark Everette Comer from 22nd February 1973.

The Heritage Trust certificate indicates that the car left the factory with the Willow Green exterior, and Black interior.

We believe this information to be incorrect, as we have established through previous custodians dating back to the 70's that they all knew the car having a Cinnamon interior , this is also indicated in the additional notes on the certificate. we have concluded that the car was actually dispatched with either the wrong interior - black, which was rectified at an early stage in the cars history, or that the factory recorded the production incorrectly.

The car is currently undergoing an extensive restoration. The car has recently benefited from an engine out, full bare metal re-spray, and is currently waiting for the new cinnamon interior to be fitted.

Of the 8629 Jaguar E-Types Series 2 OTS built, 654 were finished in Willow Green and of those 159 had a Cinnamon interior.
