This stunning motorcycle is a 1978 Honda CB750 (bored 850) made in Japan, built in Britain, Cafe Racer. This was a project for the past 10 years and from the initial rebuild in 2009 has been constantly improved. The doner machine for this bike is the last year of the successful SOHC model, (first year being 1969) it has the bigger cylinder head. Originally this model had the far from attractive comstar wheels, so the swing arm was converted by a professional welder to take the same year K8 spoked wheel. As you will see this retro-graded the bike from rear disc to the old school British look of the earlier hub brake. The tank, side covers and external oil tank are from earlier 1974 K models, the frame was adapted to take these again to maintain the old school British look. The tank has been given a fuel resistant coating to prevent future rust. To enable spoked wheels on the front a 1975 Honda Goldwing forks and wheel was fitted, has a professionally crafted Billet Yoke. This front wheel was completely rebuilt from the original hub. The forks were hard chromed and seals replaced. These forks are chunkier and wider than the original machine and keep the bike very stable at speed. As well as being fun in the back lanes, it is a great motorway and city machine and has had its fair share of visits from Oxfordshire to the Ace Cafe in London. The frame has been powder coated in gold, the swing arm powder coated black.
The high spec fibreglass cafe racer seat moulding is a quality aftermarket piece from the USA. The seat cushion professionally made has gel padding on a shaped plywood base. Underneath the cushion is access to a glove compartment in the seat hump for tools, camera, sat nav etc.
The engine has been professionally rebuilt from the bottom up, it has new cam chain roller and guide with primary chain set and new primary chain tensioner. All engine seals and gaskets replaced. Ported and polished, rebored to 836cc and fitted with custom 836 piston kit 10.25:1 for F2 as sold by Dynoman Performance (DP) in the USA. Silicon bronze valve guides. The ignition has been replaced with the Dyna S Electronic ignition and Dyna coil set. All valves and valve springs replaced along with a Webcam #41 camshaft also by DP. Valve spring retainers are Titanium by DP. The head gasket is a cosmetic CFM20, by DP. The stock carburettors have been replaced with Kehin CR 29mm and DP air filters and the throttle is replaced by a quick response push/pull.
The exhaust is an aftermarket 4-2-1 Straight through system. To take into account the extra performance the twin disc brakes have been fitted with high performance sintered brake pads and the oil lines have been replaced with Hel Braded hosing, to assist this the front forks have been fitted with progressive fork springs. The twin discs have recently been replaced with EBC discs. The engine casing originally being a black version has been taken back to bare alloy and the crank case, cylinders and heads given a coating of Xylon which is a professionally applied, Teflon based, chip proof, heat proof and stain proof coating the outer casings are highly polished and just require some Solvol Autosol once a year to maintain. The tank, seat and side covers have been given a high quality custom paint job. The paint check/skull and flag motifs are all protected underneath a high gloss lacquer.
The engine has Finned alloy Billet alternator, clutch and ignition covers, there is a Finned Billet engine bracket to maintain this look. The rear wheel stabiliser bar is Billet to as is the brake oil reservoir cap, the indicators and Oberon bar mirror. The headlamp and rear light cluster are from a quality British bike parts supplier. Nearly forgot, the top yoke was replaced with a handmade polished Billet version. This with the re-faced and chrome shrouded clocks and idiot lights give the rider a very neat and unique view. In addition to the red oil pressure light there is a crank case mounted oil pressure gauge down by the right foot. Which as well as being useful adds to the overall look. A great looking bike which would not look out of place at the Goodwood Revival or such shows. Consigned by James Good
