1969 GILBERN GENIE - £3,000 as adve...
Hi, welcome to my Ad for my 1969 Gilbern Genie. This car is very very unusual for one of these cars as it has not been attemted to be restored and then abandoned when its in 200 pieces, its as it was found and bought more or less, the biggest mistake people make when they buy a gilbern is to start taking things off with all the best intentions, through experience of these cars the slowly slowly approach of repair and restore as much as you can in situ is far better as thats how they were built in the first place, individually and each one a few mm different from the next. It is with much reluctance that i am offering this one up for sale, and due to its one family owner and overall complete condition which saves so much hunting around for rare parts, i always intended to keep this one especially as prices on these cars are one to watch according to the motoring press and going by the ones that have recently sold this is supported. As Gilbern were a very small car company most of the components are a mix of parts available at the time such as MGC running gear and a ford essex v6 engine, this makes them very easy and cheap to run but other items of trim and brightwork are completely gilbern unique such as the gutter trim, grille, badges, wheels etc all of which are complete and good on this car, even projects that have all the bits in boxes are a huge risk due to not knowing how carefully they were removed and how well stored they have been. All Five unique to Gilbern wheels are with the car, and heres a bit of trivia were the first uk production car to have lightweight magnesium alloys as standard fitment. The fibreglass body is in good condition apart from two cracks on the front wings which would indicate that it has had two new front wing halfs fitted a long time ago and theres a stress crack in the common spot at the corner of the a pillar but the body of these cars is non structural as all the chassis is a steel ladder affair which looks to be in fair condition theres about 4" outrigger part at the front that could do with being replaced but the longitudinals and the rear cradle look good, The windscreen has a crack in the lower corner which is not an mot fail and new screens are available through the owners club Rear bumper quarters are not present but these are off a triumph 2000 so pop up on ebay and auto jumbles regualarly. The cibie spotlamps in the photos are bolted through the over rider holes so the bumpers have not been drilled for them, these will be removed before the auction end unless the buyer would like to purchase them, they are rare ex works 911 cibies so dont mind hanging onto them. Please remember this is a project that was last on the road in 1998 and will need to be collected on an appropriate trailer or recovery vehicle, it rolls freely and viewings are welcome at evenings and weekends.
