The Ford Model T, often dubbed the 'Tin Lizzie,' is a symbol of American industrial innovation and the automobile revolution of the early 20th century. Introduced by Henry Ford in 1908, the Model T was the first mass-produced car using assembly line manufacturing. This method drastically reduced production costs and made cars affordable to the average American, revolutionising transportation and society at large. The most popular body styles were two and five-seater open touring cars; however, a very wide variety of bodies were available over the years including closed cars, vans and one tonne truck versions. Special bodies and many other parts were available from accessory suppliers, so it was possible to convert your Model T car to anything from a 25-seater Charabanc or taxi to a racing car or tractor. Powered by a 20bhp, four-cylinder engine, the Model T was reliable, durable, and simple to maintain, which made it an appealing option for a wide range of drivers. It was capable of reaching a top speed of about 45mph and ran on various fuels, including petrol, ethanol, and kerosene, showcasing its versatility in an era when fuel availability varied. By the end of its production in 1927, over 15 million Model Ts had been sold, cementing its place as one of the best-selling cars in history. Its affordability and accessibility helped transform the United States into a nation of car owners, reshaping infrastructure, urban planning, and lifestyles.

Driving a Model T is easy, if you've never driven a conventional car. The accelerator is controlled by hand using a lever under the steering wheel. Forward gears are selected using the left of the three pedals, reverse by using the centre pedal and braking is achieved using the right pedal. This Model T presents beautifully with gleaming black coachwork and the wood to the rear is also in great condition as are the artillery wheels. It is fitted with a Ruckstell two-speed rear axle, effectively making this a four-speed Model T. Rocky Mountain brakes are also fitted, the larger rear drums improves the stopping power significantly. Clearly this Model T has been restored and whoever carried out the work knew what they were doing. Privately owned by a fastidious and knowledgeable vendor, this little gem has been used on a regular basis. He did say a trip to Waitrose can take far too long due to the admirers, questions and photographs. This is a stand-out 1918 Model T that can be used for promotional work, exhibited at shows or displayed as office art. Today, the Model T is celebrated as a milestone in automotive history and remains an enduring symbol of innovation, progress, and the transformative power of industrialisation.
