Produced between 1999 - 2002, the Ducati 996 was an evolution of the legendary 916 Retaining the stunning Tamburini design, it is almost indistinguishable from its predecessor The bike was available in various specifications - Biposto, 'S' and the track-focused SPS After losing the World Superbike Championship to Honda, Ducati introduced the 996R It had a production run of only 500 for homologation purposes and was the first Ducati to use the new Testastretta engine which featured a new narrow angle valve design developed in Formula 1. The engine actually has a displacement of 998cc and included more aggressive cams and Titanium conrods with a shorter stroke and larger bore for higher rpm and increased horsepower 350 'Customer' versions of the bike were available for sale online on the first day of release and they sold out in six hours.
