1993 ASTON MARTIN VIRAGE VOLANTE - £POA
The Aston Martin Virage Volante 6.3 is a remarkable model in the illustrious history of Aston Martin. Background and Origins The Aston Martin Virage was introduced in 1989 as the company's new flagship model, replacing the long-standing V8 models. The Virage was significant as it marked a shift towards more modern design and technology for Aston Martin. It was powered by a 5.3-liter V8 engine, and while it maintained the classic Aston Martin elegance, it incorporated contemporary design cues and engineering advancements. The Virage Volante The Volante (Aston Martin’s term for convertible) version of the Virage debuted in 1992. This convertible retained the sleek design of the Virage coupe but added the allure of open-top driving. The Volante was designed to offer both performance and luxury, providing an exhilarating driving experience combined with high-end comfort. The 6.3-Liter Conversion In 1992, Aston Martin's Works Service introduced the 6.3-liter conversion package for the Virage. This upgrade was extensive and transformed the standard 5.3-liter V8 into a more powerful 6.3-liter engine. The modifications included an increased bore and stroke, larger valves, high-compression pistons, and a reworked intake system. This upgrade boosted the power output significantly, providing around 456 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Design and Performance Enhancements In addition to the engine upgrade, the 6.3 conversion package included several other enhancements: Suspension and Brakes: The suspension was revised to handle the increased power, and larger, more powerful brakes were fitted to ensure the car could stop as well as it could go. Aerodynamics: The body received subtle aerodynamic tweaks to improve stability at high speeds. This included a deeper front spoiler and a rear wing. Wider Track and Tires: The car's track was widened to improve handling, and it was equipped with larger wheels and tires for better grip and road contact. Rarity and Collectability The Aston Martin Virage Volante 6.3 is a rare model due to the limited number of cars that received the 6.3-liter conversion. These cars are highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts due to their enhanced performance, unique features, and the bespoke nature of the modifications. Each 6.3 conversion was carried out to the customer's specifications, making each car unique. Legacy The Virage Volante 6.3 holds a special place in Aston Martin's history as a bridge between the classic V8 models and the more modern vehicles that followed. It represents a period of transition for the brand, where traditional craftsmanship met contemporary engineering. Conclusion The Aston Martin Virage Volante 6.3 is a testament to Aston Martin's dedication to performance, luxury, and bespoke craftsmanship. Its rarity and performance make it a standout model in the marque's storied history, and it remains a highly desirable vehicle among car enthusiasts.
