Estimate:$100,000 - $150,000 Formerly of the renowned Tom Mittler CollectionBelieved to be the only 1600 VD in the United StatesReportedly equipped with an 1,800 cc Works racing enginePowerful and very entertaining vintage rally veteran The Renault-based, highly tuned Alpine A110 is one of the greatest European rally cars of its decade, revered in the late 1960s and early 1970s for its handling and performance.According to the Alpine-Renault Registered Owners Association, at the time of their register this car was the only 1600 VD in the United States. Imported by Phillipe de Lespinay, it features numerous differences from other A110s, including unique front and rear lightweight fiberglass bumpers, small fender flares, large Cibie headlamps and driving lights, and the later-style Alpine logos, body side and hood trim. As a 1600 VD model, it is fitted with the double-wishbone rear suspension from the newly introduced A310.Equipment includes what the Alpine register notes is an 1,800 cc Works racing engine with dual 45DCOE Weber carburetors and Devil header and exhaust, five-speed manual transmission, four-joint suspension, R17 brake calipers and rotors, a front-mounted radiator, and a modern fuel cell. Additionally, the car includes a spare set of 13-inch Gotti modular four-bolt wheels shod in Michelin racing tires for competition use.The car was formerly part of the renowned race-car collection of the late Tom Mittler of South Bend, Indiana, who drove it enthusiastically, a tradition maintained in the current collection up until most recently.
