1997 ALFA ROMEO SPIDER 916 Phase 1 - £6,250 ovno
Decided to sell my stunning 1997 Alfa Romeo 916 Spider 2.0 T Spark Phase 1 as I am reducing my collection of cars and with pending work commitments the next opportunity I will get to use the Spider will be October which isn't great for a soft top! I looked at a lot of these little Spiders before finding the right one and the plan was to keep it longterm, there are some real sheds out there with dents and leaking hoods, this one is IMMACULATE...
The car really is immaculate throughout and the pictures do not do the car justice (I did not even clean it prior to taking the pictures but it will be valeted before sale), it is actually better than the pictures even show. There are no dents in the bodywork which is rare for one of these as there are no bump strips and with the colour combination of red and tan Momo interior it is superb throughout. It is low milage with only 45,000 miles covered in its lifetime and has almost certainly always been a garaged second car. From the history the previous owners show 2 of the 4 listed are the same person / family, they obviously sold it and then bought it again at a later date which is a testament to how good the car is. The car was supplied with German booklets and I think it was a UK spec car but purchased in Germany possibly with the original owner being in the armed forces as they were given incentives tax wise when purchasing vehicles abroad. All servicing has been in the UK.
There is a full service history and all previous MOT's & tax discs are with the car, the hood is also in immaculate condition with no rips or tears and a good clear non hazzed rear window. Being a Phase 1 this has the manual hood which on an Alfa is great as the electric hoods were not known for their reliability. Everything works as it should on the car with nothing requiring attention, even the air conditioning, the new owner can really get straight into this car and enjoy the summer.
The car is standard throughout with no modifications aside from an updated head unit presumably the original cassette one packed up. The centre console has recently been refurbished so no need to worry about the sticky interiors that 1990's Italian cars suffer with. The car drives great with the beautiful 2.0 T Spark raspy engine with a great gearbox and smooth clutch and no gearbox whine issues. There are 4 x matching Goodyear tyres all round and the only item pointed out on the last MOT was the edges of two of the tyres are wearing which to be honest I cant see and the car drives in a true straight line so may just need the tracking done at a later date. I store the car inside in a heated car store and there are no signs of any oil leaks from the engine or gearbox.
The car has had the front bumper painted at some point (presumably to tidy up stone chips) but there is no signs of any previous accident damage. Being a Phase 1 Spider I believe from factory the sills would have been black but the previous owner may have had these colour coded which I think really makes the car look better. Being a late 1997 car they may even have been colour coded at the factory like the Phase 2 cars?
All 3 x keys (including the all important Red key) are with the car and the original alarm fobs although the original alarm no longer works, it may be something that an auto electrician could rectify but to be honest it may be easier to replace the alarm if the new owner wanted it to work.
Recent work this year and in the last 800 miles:
- Full major service.
- New cambelt & tensioner.
- Balance shaft belt.
- Replaced poly bush on rear.
- replaced non working N/S door tweeter.
If i had to be critical of the car which I feel is always good to do when selling a car I would note the following points, none of which are major but I would like to describe the car as honest as possible and pictures can be sent if required:
- Slight mark/scuff on N/S passenger mirror.
- Slight 2cm scuff on front N/S arch but not broken paint.
- Both lower sills have a mark if you look under the car from jacking points but not broken any part or noticeable unless under car.
As with my other cars I am advertising now as I will not be getting to use them over the summer with work commitments but I am in two minds if I should let this one go.... There cant be many Phase 1 immaculate low milage standard Spiders about that are not Japanese imports? This car is only going to go up in value and with the Alfa Romeo Red and Tan colour scheme it is the one to own and a true future classic.
If you would like to view the car it is in Blackmoor, Hampshire, GU33 area, please contact John 07867 808418 for further information.
