1975 ALFA ROMEO 2000 GT Veloce - £37,950
The Alfa Romeo story began in June 1910 when A.L.F.A (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) was founded in Milan Italy. Their first car, the 24hp, was a great success and the Alfa name became synonymous with motor racing in the early years. In 1915 Nicola Romeo took over the company and during war time its focus was on military equipment, however, it wanted to build cars. Soon after the very first Alfa Romeo motor vehicle, the Torpedo 20-30hp was built.
Through until the 1950s Alfa Romeo was responsible for some of the most exclusive road cars and most successful race cars ever built. Following the Second World War the company was in financial difficulty and it decided a change in direction was necessary to survive, and rather than hand build luxury sporting cars it decided to focus on mass production. Hence, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint was born. Alfa got the formula right and as testament to the success of this model the car was in production for over a decade from 1954 through until 1965.
Throughout the 1950s and 60s Alfa built a number of different models including four door sedans, two door coupes and convertibles, however, regardless of model their cars always had a sporting edge. They were a drivers car first and foremost.
Launched in 1963 the Alfa Romeo 105 Series was introduced to replace the very successful 101 Series Giulietta. Designed by Bertone (Giorgetto Giugiaro) the shape was purely Alfa with many styling cues taken from the Alfa Romeo 2600 and 2000. The first model introduced was known as the Giulia Sprint GT which was powered by Alfas proven 1600cc engine. A convertible version known as the Giulia GTC and more powerful Giulia Sprint GT Veloce were subsequently introduced. Other standard models in the 105 Series range that evolved from 1965 were the 1750 GT Veloce, 2000 GT Veloce, GT 1300 Junior and GT 1600 Junior
Oldtimer Australia is delighted to offer an outstanding example of the Alfa Romeo 105 series cars a 1975 Alfa Romeo 2000 GT Veloce.
This particular car is an Australian delivered, factory right hand drive example with its Australian compliance plate date stamped 6/75.
There is an original dealer booklet with the car on which is a note that William Pallares from Caulfield (Melbourne), Victoria, Australia was the car's first owner and that he acquired the car from Talbot Motors, Abbotsford on the 11th November 1975.
There is a thick file of receipts, old registration documents and other miscellaneous documents on file, but most is from the last ten years.
Incredibly this car was restored some fifteen years ago and it has passed through a number of owners travelling from Brisbane to Sydney to Perth and more recently back to Brisbane since then. There is a 'Vehicle Service Book' that the cars Perth based owner started with some records noted, including mileage from 11/08/07 - 64,883 miles to 18/08/08 - 67,086 miles. There is email correspondence on file dated 27 December 2006 between the cars then Sydney based owner and its then to be next owner in Perth with comments that the car came from Brisbane some three years ago. It was also stated that the car underwent a bare metal respray some four years ago and that the car had never been driven in the rain since.
The car has recently had almost $5,000 spent on the brakes and air conditioning.
Today the odometer today reads 74,492 miles, so the car has had very little use since it was restored. In fact the car today presents and drives as though it was restored within the last twelve months. It is just a STUNNING example!
The paintwork has an exceptional depth of colour and it is in excellent condition. You have to look pretty hard to find a blemish or a stone chip! All of the exterior trim, chrome, glass and the wheels are also in excellent condition. Inside the car everything is also beautifully presented and very much like it was restored yesterday. All of the seats, door cards and trim are in excellent condition. Similarly, the dash, instruments and timber steering wheel which is a real feature of these cars. The car has window tint installed which its new owner may or may not choose to keep. The car is fitted with air conditioning (that blows cold air!) which we understand to be factory. The engine bay and boot are also extremely clean and fresh. Underneath the car is as well presented as on top and inside!
As with most Italian cars, but particularly Alfa Romeos, it is all about the drive. One cant help but smile once you turn the key and the two litre engine fires. It just sounds all Alfa Romeo with those wonderful mechanical noises and the raspy exhaust note. You have to be patient, let the car warm up and then the real fun starts. It doesnt take long at all and you get very comfortable behind the wheel . . . for some reason you just keep going up and down the gears because you can! This little Alfa is spot on. The engine is on song and it just begs to be revved. The gear change is good and the car performs as you would expect out on the open road. As noted previously the braking system has been recently overhauled and the pads will need a few more miles to bed in.
Oldtimer Australia has just had the car inspected by a classic Alfa Romeo specialist with some minor issues identified and rectified to ensure the car is fully sorted and ready to go. A compression test was undertaken and that confirmed the engine to be in good health with compressions between 155 and 160 psi.
The car is accompanied by a thick history file with many receipts, old registration documents & other records, an owners manual, tool kit and jack kit as well as a car cover.
With Alfa Romeo prices skyrocketing we believe this later model 2000 GT Veloce presents a great opportunity in this market.
Surely it wont last long at this price.
