Barons Annual Yuletide Classic Auction Results
Auction Location: Sandown Park, Esher, Surrey
Auction Date: Tuesday 8 December 2009
Sale Statistics
The catalogue cover starring 1947 Jaguar MkIV - originally supplied to Australia and repatriated in 1994 and which had taken six years to restore to simply stunning order - most deservedly fetched £61,600, nearly £20,000 more than guide price, to top Barons’ end of 2009 season sale results at Sandown Park, reports Richard Hudson-Evans. The Southampton-based firm also finally shifted an originally Jo Siffert supplied and subsequently Martin Birrane raced 1971 Chevron B19 for £80,000 gross. The 1800cc FVC powered sports-racer had been knocked down as sold in March 2008 but was never paid for.
A pristine brace of much modified Escorts both sold here, too, with £35,750 available for a big-winged 1972 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico with non-original Vulcan Pinto motor and £20,900 paid for a Cosworth-powered 1979 RS2000 Mk2 with Zakspeed body-kit. Also cosmetically sharp was a Pontiac Firebird 400 HO Recreation Convertible sold for a forecast £23,650.
A 1969 280SL Pagoda-top Merc made £23,100 here and a 1998 TR Cerbera with 4.5 V8 under bonnet £18,700. One of two quite rare MG TD/C Roadsters in the sale, a left-hand drive 1952 Mk2, sold for £14,575 and the required £8800 was available for a restored and more recently repainted 1973 VW Bay Window Camper Van. Whilst a Ferrari 4001 with some rust-crumbling panels did well to generate £6710 as did a 1959 BMW Isetta 300cc 3-wheeler Bubble Car for restoration taken on for £3300.
Barons will next set-up their rostrum in the Esher Hall at Sandown Park Tuesday 9 February with a 1.30pm sale. Cars consigned together with their paperwork may be viewed at the Surrey venue 3pm-7.30m Monday 8.
