In 1937 the three surviving Maserati brothers sold out to the Orsi Group and after World War Two, founded Officine Specialzzatte per la Costruzuone Automobilli Fratelli Maserati- O.S.C.A. For short.

One of the reasons the brothers sold out was that they did not wish to build just road cars. OSCAs had great success in the 1950s: in 1954 finishing 1st, 4th and 5th against works teams in the Sebring 12 hour event. OSCAs took class wins in the Mille Miglia on 10 occasions. The car offered here for sale is chassis 1126 which finished 2nd in class in the 1953 Mille Miglia event and notably also ran in the event of 1955 on which occasion the car retired.

OSCA was a small company, only making 30 cars per year initially with the MT4 running a 1,092cc engine. This engine was enlarged in stages up to the 1,491cc unit before the MT4 evolved into the TN with a revised chassis (on the same 2,200 mm wheel base) with a new and more powerful (125 Bhp) 1,491cc engine which was powering Fiats range topping sports cars.

Chassis number 1126 was completed on 23rd of March 1953 and registered to its first owner Gaetano Sani who entered the car in that years Mille Miglia (number 337) finishing 2nd in class and 17th overall. Chassis number 1126 entered multiple events during the coming seasons including the Trofeo Sardo, Coppa della Toscana, Nurburgring 1,000km, Bologna Toscana to name but a few (the full competition history of the car is listed below.)

During its first season this OSCA never finished lower than 3rd in class.

In 1954 the car was sold to Bruno Ricciardi. In 1958 the car was sold to Pietro Fiordelsi who raced the car throughout 1955.

In 1961 the car was re-bodied by the coach builder Morelli famed for work with OSCA and with bodywork revised with a later style. The car was raced in 1961 twice by Fiordelisi before a period of storage. In 2003 the car was recommissioned with the new owner and went on to be raced extensively which has included outings at many of the worlds most prestigious events. To name a few these include the Goodwood Revival Meeting twice, the Nurburgring, Spa Francorchamps and Portimao twice. This wonderful car comes with VSCC registration, FIA technical passport and the Alfa Romeo engine which has been the basis of success over recent years and was rebuilt in early 2012.

Weighing less than 600Kgs with over 130 Bhp this is a nimble and race winning car that will be very competitive on a circuit in its class, (within the right hands of course!)

This OSCA is an extremely interesting car, well known, with documented history from day one. It is a privilege that Premium Classic Cars are able to offer this important racing OSCA for sale. This car will now return to its original 1953 configuration with a period correct OSCA Engine in readiness for an assured reappearance in Brescia at the Mille Miglia some time soon.

Marty has been busy with her camera and Im sure you will agree that the photographs capture the wonderful patina of this outstanding road racing car very well. The OSCA is a both desirable and collectable car. Stirling Moss has an OSCA which can be seen all over the world. These cars are a guaranteed ticket to many of the most prestigious historic motorsport events; whether its the Goodwood Revival Meeting, Classic Le Mans or indeed the Mille Miglia.

The car is an exceptional entry to many Historic Motorsport events and possibly one of the best investments in a market with compelling opportunities seemingly prevalent. This is a car that I suspect is unlikely to be offered for sale for a long time I expect a new home is imminent.

Original Mille Miglia cars with rock solid provenance are guilt-edged offering huge enjoyment. A car such as this being road registered is an added bonus offering so much scope for events.
