MINT CORTINA UP FOR GRABS

MINT CORTINA UP FOR GRABS

A rare MkI Ford Cortina has gone up for sale in Nottingham for £13,500. The mint condition 1963 1200 Deluxe has covered just 9128 miles and is described by its current owner as being “completely original.”

The car has appeared regularly in the media, including in CCfS sister title Classic Car Weekly in November 2011 and then again in January 2012.

The car also made an appearance on the BBC’s Top Gear. Not only this, but it has a signature from Terence Beckett, a former Chairman of Ford UK, on its original logbook.

It also features on the front cover of Haynes’ Ford Cortina: The Complete History by Russell Miller.

The car was initially put up for sale on an internet auction site, but was due to the number of time-wasters and people with unreliable feedback bidding on the car.

Current owner David Gaunt described the situation as being “messy” and he was very conscious of not putting off genuine bidders.

David is very well known in Ford Cortina circles and has owned the Cortina for 22 years, adding only a few thousand miles to its odometer.

As with the sale of any box-fresh classic, he doesn’t really want to sell his pride and joy, but is forced to so he can fund his latest resto project: an early Lotus Cortina.

Most significantly, too, 60% of the 91 cars been consigned at no reserve and 13 of them sold to Eastern Europe, whilst buying bids were received remotely from as far afield as Russia and the US.
