PRINCE RAINIER COLLECTION OFFERED: Story by Murray Scullion

The Prince of Monaco is auctioning off an assortment of his father’s cars, including a Porsche 928S, an NSU Sport Prinz and a VW BeetleArtcurial Motorcars will be auctioning 40 vehicles on 26 July all of which will be sold without reserve. The oldest car on sale – and at an estimated £35,000, also the most expensive – is a 1913 Panhard X19.  The late Rainier III spent 30 years accumulating the 100-car collection, which is currently on display at the Terraces de Fontvieille Musesum of Antique Automobiles in Monaco. Rainier clearly liked all things American (he famously married famous Hollywood actress, Grace Kelly) so it’s no surprise to find a number of American cars in the lot. Notable models include a 4.1-litre Chevrolet Camaro, a Dodge 4x4 and a rare Dodge Dart. Perhaps surprisingly, many of the cars featured in the collection are down to earth, including an original Fiat 500.
