Retromobile kicks off classic season in Paris

One of the biggest classic car events in Europe is officially underway and some 90,000 people will make their way to Paris to enjoy Retromobile.

Now in its 37th year, Retromobile is hosting lots of important anniversaries and, as you would expect, doing so with a certain "je ne sais quoi!"

Highlights include a number of 50th anniversary celebrations, encompassing the legendary Ferrari GTO, Alpine A110 and MGB. Other special displays have been created for the 40th anniversaries of both the Honda Civic and the Renault 5. Peugeot marked the 2012 release of its latest ‘Segment B’ model - the 208 - with a retrospective of the cult 200 series. This began with the 201 of 1929 - the first model to carry the three-figure name and one that helped Peugeot weather the financial crisis of the 1930s - all the way through to the legendary 205 of the 1980s.

Visitors are getting their autojumble fix too, with scores of rare parts to rummage through in that extensive area of the show, alongside a section

dedicated solely to ‘automobile art’.

Racing fans are also well catered for with a superb collection of Group B rally cars. Looking to buy a classic? Both Bonhams and Artcurial are hosting important sales and auction stars of the show include a stunning 1959 Ferrari 250GT California LWB, which is part of the Jean-Claude Bajol collection. Bajol, a well known film director, died earlier this year and was one of the first French collectors of important Ferrari motorcars.
