Was this Idi Amin's limo?

The car is for sale without reserve – and without wheels – at RM’s London auction today (October 31). RM’s Shelby Myers told CCW: “I can’t say too much about the car, but it’s certainly had an interesting history. The first owner was a well-known African dictator. The present owner bought the car some years ago and it has been in storage. It’s now offered as a restoration project.”

Shelby declined to reveal the identity of the dictator but it’s thought to be Idi Amin. Other famous owners of Mercedes 600s include Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Saddam Hussein.

The Pullman Limousine was in production from 1963-69 and had a 153.5 inch wheelbase. Despite the car’s size and bulk, performance was relatively sprightly thanks to Mercedes-Benz’ 6.3 litre V8 engine. Armour plating may have slowed this car down however. RM says: “The majority of the car remains intact,” although some of the interior trim appeared to be missing. The car’s estimated to sell for £20,000-30,000.
