An Escort 1300XL with just 101 miles on the clock is going under the hammer at Anglia Car Auctions 18 August sale. Resplendent in the fetching shade of Saluki Bronze, the car was originally supplied and delivered by Bristol Street Motors, Birmingham, to a Mrs Twigg of Yardley on the 21st August 1972.
Amazingly though, the car then stayed in her garage until 2007 and has covered just 101 miles. ACA’s Rob George told CCfS: “The Escort is a real gem. From what we can ascertain, the car was delivered and never driven by its elderly owner. The majority of its 101 miles seem to be delivery miles from the factory! Interestingly, the car was not undersealed from new and the underside beggars belief. It even retains the matt black paint on the rear axle.”
Apart from some paint rectification to the roof area and a new exhaust system, the car is exactly as it left the factory and must represent one of the very best original examples in existence. The car’s fantastic condition is reflected in the estimate of £9750-£12000. The vendor is a Northamptonshire based private collector who intends to concentrate on his classic Mercedes fleet.
