Big prices for microcars

From an Alvis TD21 I kept company with on the A43 near Silverstone, to modern Ferraris, an Ascari and a Zonda seen on a trip back from Wales last week, it appears everyone is releasing their motoring treasures in advance of the ‘season’ proper. Time warp classics discovered

A Ford Escort that lay dormant in a garage for 40 years has come to market just days after a low-mileage Triumph TR6 was discovered. The 1972 Escort, priced at £14,995, has covered just 120-miles and was parked up in dry storage after its owner gave up driving. Read more

Unearthing a 'barn-find'

Do you dream of unearthing a low-mileage barn-find? It happened to me once. It was about 1996. Agreeing to clear the garage of a friend who had just emigrated, she wanted an ‘old Escort’ moving. £30 agreed, I thought ‘well if two of the tyres are good it is worth that’. Grabbing mate Jamie and a trailer, we set-off to unearth the unknown. We talked about what we might find, expecting a rotted out mk2 1100 L four –door. As the tenant of the house my friend was renting out now she'd moved away handed us the keys to the garage, we asked where said garage was. 'In the back garden' he replied, waving vaguely in the direction of the side of the house. Read more
