Click here and enter your email address. You will receive an email with a link to the website where you can then reset your password. This link is only valid for 24 hours for security purposes.

Should I email or telephone a seller?

Telephone is the best way of reaching the seller directly and is recommended. Email is an option for general enquiries. Please mention Classiccarsforsale.co.uk – the No1 website for buying and selling classic cars – when replying to all adverts.

How do I submit an advert?

Simply register on the site and then visit the Sell Your Classic Car section on the site if you are selling a car. If you are selling autojumble or parts – please visit those specific sections.

There are certain categories of information which need filling in before you write the general description of what you are selling. Filling in these categories will make your item easier to find when buyers are searching the site. Having clicked on Place An Advert begin to type in the make (marque) of the car you wish to sell. The site will then list makes alphabetically and give you suggestions based on what you have typed in. Choose the correct manufacturer for your vehicle. If the make of the car you wish to sell is not there then type in the Make of the car in the empty box. Then type in the Model (eg. E-type) and the Derivative if you know it (eg. V12 Roadster). There are categories that are mandatory but fill in as many of the optional categories as well – this will help buyers with specific needs to search for your advert. You can then write a description of what you are selling. Put yourselves in the shoes of the buyer and think what information you would want if you were buying. History of the car/item, condition, mileage, anything unique about the car/item, reason for sale etc.

You can then upload up to 8 pictures. Please note that the first image you upload will be the one showing in the listing. The other images can be viewed when someone actually clicks on your advert. You can also upload video content from You Tube, click the "share" button to get the embed link to paste into your advert form.

Your contact details will be taken directly from your User Account, but you may wish to add supplementary information eg another phone number.

Your advert will need to be approved before we make it live, this process usually takes less than 24 hours. Once authorised, we’ll send you an email confirming that your advert is live on the site.

UK adverts may be selected to appear in our newspaper Classic Car Weekly, for two weeks.

Which category should I put my car in?

There are nine categories of vehicle – see below for the definitions. When you are placing your advert, choose the category which you think your car fits best.

Modern Classics

Any car manufactured after 1990 which appeals to a collectors market

Prestige

Luxurious cars designed for comfort. Most Bentleys and Rolls-Royces will fall into this category

Pre War

Any car manufactured during or prior to 1939

Saloons/Estates

Exactly what it says on the tin!

Sports

A convertible with excellent road holding characteristics. Examples include the Mazda MX-5 and the Porsche Boxter

Sports Coupe

As above but with a roof. The car will have a sloped rear and usually very little space in the rear. An MGB GT is a good example

Supercars

If it will reach 60mph in less than 5 seconds consider it a supercar. A Ferrari F40 or a Bugatti Veyron are obvious examples

Track/Rally

Any car that is outfitted for any form of competitive motorsport

Motorcycles

Two wheels and an engine!

I am struggling to upload pictures for my advert

Each image must be no more than 4MB in size. The easiest way of ensuring you can upload pictures is to change the image size on your camera BEFORE you take the pictures. Most digital cameras have a picture setting for online images which is smaller than 0.5mb per image. Select this setting and then take the pictures you wish to use in your advert. Download them to the computer you will use for placing your advert. You will then be able to select them when you are Placing an Advert. If you have larger-sized images you will need to resize them on your computer (this can be done in most image storing programs before attempting to upload them to your advert.

How long do adverts last?

All private adverts will automatically remain live on the site for 6 months or until you remove your advert from the website because it has been sold or you no longer wish to sell it. Standard dealer adverts will automatically remain live on the site for 6 weeks unless the advert is cancelled prior to this. There are premium dealer packages available which allow cars to be kept on the site for longer.

Where is my advert?

Your advert will need to be approved before we make it live, this process usually takes less than 24 hours. Once authorised, we'll send you an email confirming that your advert is live on the site. However, if you have selected 'Other' from the Makes list (ie you are adding a make of vehicle that is not within our standard list) then this advert will need to be verified by Classiccarsforsale.co.uk staff before it can go live. This should take no more than 2 working days. If you continue to have a problem seeing your advert then contact us via admin@classiccarsforsale.co.uk.

I am concerned about scams. How do I know an enquiry is genuine?

We do all we can to stop scammers emailing sellers and our software is very successful in stopping most of them. However, we cannot guarantee that some enquiries may not be genuine. The short answer is, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is! If you think you have been contacted by scammer, please send the details to reportabuse@classiccarsforsale.co.uk and we will investigate and take action where appropriate. If you think an advert is suspicious then please use the “Report as Inappropriate” button on the advert. This will send us the details so we can investigate.

What does POA stand for?

Price on application. Using this in your advert can put some prospective buyers off. We recommend you select an actual price.
