The Triumph TR6 was manufactured between 1969 and 1976 at the firm's plant in Coventry. Triumph then followed the TR6 with the radically designed TR7, which was criticised in reviews for being slightly outlandish compared with the design of the TR6, which had the look of a proper, classic convertible British sports car. All models in the TR6 range feature inline 6 cylinder engines, with the entry model producing 150bhp from the car's 2.5 litre engine. The TR6 contained a 4 speed manual box however Triumph did offer buyers the chance to purchase an optional 'overdrive unit', giving the TR6 longer legs for motorway work without diminishing it's ability for spirited driving in the British summertime. With bucket seats, front disk brakes, sporty 15 inch wheels and independent rear suspension the TR6 really is a classic, open-topped British roadster, with touches such as a real wooden dashboard lending the car a somewhat regal air.
As is the case with many classic British sports cars, the TR6 is supported by a vast network of Triumph owners clubs and dealers, ensuring anyone wishing to buy a TR6 should find it easy to obtain parts. Due to a rather large engine bay, many second hand TR6's for sale can be found with V8 engines, which have been converted by previous owners.

So much better than the competition and such good value for the money. Performance is wonderful and compared to new cars you feel you are going so much faster than you really are. However be prepared to have to concentrate hard on driving - handling is heavy and requires real strength at times and parking and manouvring can require real effort - reminds me of parking my Land Rover when the power assistance packed in. Take professional advice when chooosing new tyres because if you get it wrong ( or acquire a car with the wrong tyres ) your enjoyment could be impaired.Performance is not matched by handling but if you want an easy ride buy something different. It is a bit of a challence but all the better for that - it is a true English sportscar not a grand tourer.

I've had my red 1971 TR6 for 15 years. I bought it for £5000 then. The pevious owner had receipts and invoices for £17000 for the cost of a restoration never mind what the car had originally cost him. Told that the car is worth £12k or so now. Thats the economics of restoration. Just as well I'm very fond of it.
