Classic Rover P4 75 Car Review

1950 ROVER P4 75 FOUR-DOOR 'CYCLOPS' SALOON

Rover enjoyed a well-established reputation for solid quality allied to reasonably affordable prices, appealing decidedly to the upper middle classes. In the late 1940s, stylist Maurice Wilks and body designer Harry Loker produced a new design, the new P4 'Cyclops' model first shown at the 1949 London Motor Show. In 6-cylinder 'Rover 75' form and sporting the long awaited full-width enveloping bodywork, the new model broke away from the marque's traditional use of flowing wings and running boards.

The 2103cc engine featured a new aluminium head instead of cast iron, and twin SU carburrettors. With revised front suspension, the all-new chassis carried a combination body in steel with 'Birmabright' aluminium alloy doors, bonnet and boot lid.
