Inspired by the success of turbo-charging engines that had been seen in Formula 1, Ferrari decided to adopt it on their road-cars and in 1980 revealed the 208 GTB Turbo. The model was created specifically for the Italian market and to counter the strict tax laws that penalised cars over 2000cc. Under the bonnet there was a transversely mid-mounted aluminium V8 engine, with a capacity of 1991cc and a compression ratio of 7:1. It had a claimed output of 220bhp at 7000rpm and was mated to an all synchromesh five speed transmission.

The 208 was split into two distinct production categories. From 1980 to 1986 the 208 was based on the 308 design and looked very similar. However, from 1986 to 1987, the new 328 model was used as the basis for the 208 and it appeared almost identical to its bigger brother. In total, a mere 437 208 GTB Turbo models were manufactured.

This later generation 208 GTB is a rare find indeed. Showing what is believed to be a genuine 32,570 kilometres, the bodywork and interior are presented in fine condition and would suggest this mileage is correct. Finished in Rosso Corsa with Nero leather interior, this 208 GTB is supplied with a UK V5 registration document.

Buyers should be aware that this lot has formed part of a large private collection and has been carefully stored for some time in a heated environment, as such, some remedial works may be required. However, any 208 GTB represents a fine addition to any collection and the turbo charged engine provides a unique Ferrari driving experience.
