We are delighted to have purchased this well-known UK supplied RHD 2.4S.
Finished in its original colour of 117 light yellow with brown interior, it is one of only 146 RHD models imported to the UK in 1972 with the oil filler located in the offside rear wing. This feature was to offer the 911 better weight distribution with the large oil tank in front of the rear wheel instead of behind, offering nicer on the edge handling than the earlier models and the 73 car that followed. It was removed for 1973 as occasionally pump attendants had accidently been using it to fill the car with fuel instead of the correct fuel filler in the front wing with often expensive consequences.
This car was originally supplied by Porsche dealer Ian Anthony to Mr Harris with electric sunroof/ windows, limited slip differential and leather/ corduroy Recaro seats as factory options which are still fitted today.
He enjoyed the car over some 52,000 miles and had it maintained by the supplying dealer until 1977 when it passed hands to Mr Fournier from a Porsche specialist Newton Garage in Birmingham.
In 1988 the car was purchased by Dr Cox who continued to have the car maintained with supplying dealer Ian Anthony and RS Naylor until he sold it in 1995 with 65,000 miles.
The car passed briefly through the hands of a Mr Paul Anthony Clare who only kept it 5 months before selling it to Mr Jelly who kept the car until 2008.
Following his purchase Mr Jelly had the car independently inspected by a respected specialist who advised that the car was still in excellent original condition with the potential to become outstanding with some work. This work was entrusted to Mark Waring to oversee a complete evaluation and renovation to the highest standards using UK specialists.
The car continued to be maintained by Parr Garage and Tognolia Engineering who rebuilt the engine in 2006 and the car rose to 81,000 miles before being sold to Steve Harker in 2008.
Steve had owned a fully restored 911S before, but sold it to buy this much more original example.
He had the car fully inspected by specialist Early 911 who then carried out a major service and fitted a new clutch. They also cured some minor oil leaks and detailed the engine at the same time to ensure its appearance matched the exterior of the car.
It is only a change of circumstances that has meant the reluctant sale and our purchase of this car.
It has now covered 86,000miles with a 40 year continuous history and significant expenditure to keep this car in excellent condition.
Today with many having been converted into ST or RS replicas an original 72 2.4S is a rare car in any condition particularly in RHD. This example stands head and shoulders amongst most and will make the perfect addition to any collection.
