The L-Type MG Magna was introduced in 1933 employing a six cylinder, 1100cc engine. Very similar to the K-Type apart for a narrower track. A total of 576 L-Types were produced until production ended in 1934. BLE 801 started life as a Continental Coup© bodied L1, but this was renowned for being not particularly attractive or well made. By the time the previous owner, Dick Royce, acquired the car in the early 1960's the body had been removed and a total rebuild was required. Dick undertook work on the car over a very extended period but by the early 2000's it was still not up and running. With deteriorating health Dick was determined to drive the car while he still could. It was finished to a drivable condition with a fibreglass body and Dick was able to enjoy the car for a short period however, when he became unable to drive her anymore, she was sold to the present owner. Since acquisition the car has undergone a full nut and bolt rebuild by leading marque specialist, Oliver Richardson. The rebuild has included the construction of a new pointed tail aluminium body and the uprating of engine components to ensure reliability and usability as a fast road and competition car. Mechanically original, apart from the appropriate refurbishment and engine upgrades, BLE is now the quintessential pre-war MG six cylinder sports racing car.
