Sapphire Blue metallic with blue and red cloth. There is a staggering amount of manual equipment on this era of VWs which includes an manual roof, wind up windows, manual wing mirrors and sports seats which is the reason why not everything in life was as reliable as an 80¢²s VW. Added to this though, the car has a set of rubber mats, Kenwood Radio/CD, 14 inch Scalla alloy wheels, front driving lights, big bumper kit, tonneau cover and front and rear seat belts.

This exceptional 24,000 mile VW seems to have been left pretty much untouched. The door and panel gaps are wonderful and there are still factory yellow wax marks over the bolts and hinges, suggesting that they have never been off. The colour is described as Sapphire Blue by the factory, but in reality it is far more grey than blue! The underside is just as exceptional as the top side with no signs of previous repair of structural rust. Last time we had a MK1 Golf this good it was a Rivage convertible over 2 years ago and we have been looking for a replacement ever since.

She is fitted with the factory original set of polished Scalla alloy wheels which have recently been refurbished by Pristine wheels. They have a good set of Goodyear Eagle tyres with a 185/60 R14 profile. These have 4mm of tread at the front and 5mm at the rear. The MK1 Golf is fitted with Disc brakes and the friction parts and fluid are in good order stopping the car very well.

These engines have a reputation for being able to clock up amazing mileage, so with only 24,000 miles on the clock this one should have plenty of trouble free motoring ahead of it. It is clear from the condition of the pipes/washer bottle/brake components that this car has never covered any major mileage and has been looked after. The engine starts easily, idles cleanly and has plenty of urge. The 5 speed manual gearbox engages all gears cleanly and is easy to use with a light clutch.

Well, what can you say? Take a look at those seats and carpets. I can tell you that we didnt need to shampoo them, in fact cleaning this car ready for the studio took less than half an hour. If every bit of stock was as well cared for as this car, our detailer, would be taking a huge pay cut! All the electrical equipment, hood, seats and dash are in equally good condition which helps to back up the few miles that this car has covered from new.

This Mk1 GTI Convertible is not overburdened with history, there is an original book pack with the service book stamped twice and a file of MOTs, SORN documents and invoices for service parts consumables which help to substantiate the recorded mileage and know that it has been well maintained. It has had a total of 6 former keepers and has a clear HPI record. All you really need to do is have a good look around this vehicle to be able to see that it is a very low mileage and original example of a much loved motoring icon. She comes with a fresh MOT and fully serviced.
