Finished in red with black hide trim and Borrani wheels. An outstanding car in every respect and beautifully maintained by a fastidious owner and large history file.

The forever glorious-looking Ferrari 275 GTS (Gran Turismo Spider) made its debut at the 1964 Paris Salon – the show that had long since been Signore Ferraris venue of choice for his major car launches. The Spider was joined on the Prancing Horse stand by the equally new 275 GTB (Gran Turismo Berlinetta) with which it shared all its major mechanical components. The Spiders supremely elegant bodywork was, however, completely different to that of its fixed head sibling – it was penned and indeed built by Pininfarina, and the two models had not a single panel in common. Power was provided by a DOHC V12 engine of 3,285cc, the output of which was 260bhp at 7,000rpm. This was sufficient to accelerate the handsome two-seater to 60mph in 7.2 seconds and on to a very respectable top speed of around 145mph – make no mistake, this was a quick car in its day.It also rode and handled with panache, courtesy of independent suspension at the rear as well as the front. This upgrade over the models predecessor made it possible to move the gearbox rearward to create a transaxle, and thereby optimise the weight distribution and general balance of the car. The result was arguably the best handling road car Ferrari had made so far. That all said, the 275 GTS was more about cruising in style than traffic light Grands Prix, and is most likely to have been seen transporting the rich and famous through the streets of Monte Carlo or along Sunset Boulevard, where its graceful bodywork, stunning-looking Borrani wire wheels and distinctive V12 engine note were guaranteed to turn heads. The 275 Spider was manufactured for two years before being superseded by the 330 GTS, by which time just 200 examples had passed through the gates of Maranello. A rare and exciting motorcar.
