The Enzo, named after the founder, was established to commemorate Ferrari's first formula one title of the new millennium. This 12 cylinder mid-engine berlinetta was built in 2002 using Formula One technology, such as a carbon-fibre body, F1-style electrohydraulic shift transmission, and carbon fibre-reinforced silicon carbide ceramic composite disc brakes. Also used are technologies not allowed in F1 such as active aerodynamics and traction control.
The Enzo was designed by Ken Okuyama, the Japanese former Pininfarina head designer, and initially announced at the 2002 Paris Motor Show with a limited production run of 349. The company sent invitations to existing customers, specifically, those who had previously bought the F40 and F50. All 349 cars were sold in this way before production began. Later, after numerous requests, Ferrari decided to build 50 more Enzos, bringing the total to 399. Before being unveiled at the Paris Motor show, the Enzo was flown from Italy to California to be filmed in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. In 2004 a 400th Ferrari Enzo was built and donated to the Vatican for charity.
In 2004, American magazine Sports Car International named the Enzo Ferrari number three on their list of Top Sports Cars of the 2000s. American magazine Motor Trend Classic named the Enzo as number four in their list of the ten “Greatest Ferraris of all time”.
Jenson Button began karting at the age of eight and achieved early success, before progressing to the British Formula Ford Championship and the British Formula Three Championship. He first drove in Formula One with the Williams team for the 2000 season. The following year he switched to Benetton, which in 2002 became Renault, and then for the 2003 season he moved to BAR. They were subsequently renamed Honda for the 2006 season, during which Button won his first Grand Prix in Hungary.
Following the withdrawal of Honda from Formula 1 in December 2008, Jenson Button was left without a drive for the 2009 season, until Ross Brawn led a management buyout of the team in February 2009, and Button suddenly found himself in a highly competitive, Mercedes-engined car. He went on to win a record-equalling six of the first seven races of the 2009 season, securing the World Drivers' Championship at the Brazilian Grand Prix, having led on points all season; his success also helped Brawn GP to secure the World Constructors' Championship.
We are informed by the vendor that it was that very same Championship winning year that he purchased this Ferrari Enzo. At this time it had covered a mere 1180 kilometres from new.
With World Champion Jenson's name still present on the UK V5 registration document, and with one previous owner, Coys are proud to now offer this vehicle for sale again with just less than 1300km on the clock.
This Enzo is finished in the iconic Rosso Corsa with full leather racing seats in black with factory fitted 4-point harnesses in red. The specification includes a 6 speed F1-style sequential shift transmission with the instrument panel dials in red, black brake callipers, Xenon headlights and the essential air conditioning.
