The Ford Model 8 Van, still painted in the green business livery it had when it was reproduced by Corgi, will come up for auction at a North Yorkshire classic car garage and motoring museum.'š Model lovers from all over the world are expected to try their luck in bidding for the van when it goes under the hammer in Thornton-le-Dale, near Pickering.'š The van is expected to fetch between 'š£5,000 and 'š£7,000.'š It is being sold by D T Mathewson, a family business, at the auction next month.'š Derek Mathewson, said: 'Its quite famous in as much as anyone who has a full Corgi collection will have this van. 'It has got to be the most well-known Ford 8 van in the country because of the model.'š The vendor is only the second owner of the vehicle, and after he bought it he had it painted in his business livery.Just two years later, he was contacted by Corgi who asked if they could make a replica model of it.They had been struggling to find this particular model of van and their investigations had led to his carpet shop.'They are quite an unusual van in so much as there was quite a lot made but they were not the most robust vehicles and many of them would have been scrapped by the time they were ten years old.'š 'I do not know how many that there will be on the register but I cannot imagine there being more than a hundred or maybe as few as fifty left.'š 'They were the Ford Escort of their day,' added Mr Mathewson.'š 'The Post Office and people like that would have had them, butchers shops, bakers and places like that would have used them for their deliveries - they were ideal delivery vans.'š 'I would imagine an enthusiast would buy it.''š The van, which in recent years has been in storage, is being auctioned at D T Mathewsons Museum, in Thornton-Le-Dale, on Saturday, October 27, at 1pm.'š Mr Mathewson, who runs the family-owned garage and museum with his sons, said: 'You dont see these come up for auction much.'š He added: 'Its difficult to value but I would say somewhere between 5,000 and 7,000 pounds.''š The family has been in the classic car business for overt 40 years, with 22 years spent trading at the well known Mathewsons garage in picturesque Thornton-le-Dale North Yorkshire..'š Son David said: 'The Company was formed by my father Derek Mathewson in 1971 and we are now entering our 42nd 'š year of trading. The company has always, and will continue, to trade as D.T.Mathewson.'š 'We are very much enthusiasts first and dealers second. Its something we have done as a family for a long time.' He cont. the biggest problem is that Dad keeps too many!! 'š After viewing a considerable number, I stopped counting after 50. I see his point!'š The Auctions are proving to be very well supported and the guys at Mathewsons are keen to see this new phase of the business grow
