(From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) The Citro«n DS is a car model of the famous French brand Citroen. In French it is called the name as "d©esse" which means goddess. This is also the pet name "goddess of the way" deduced. Other nicknames include Pike and Iron (Flanders, the Netherlands), Haifisch (German: shark), Tiburon (Spanish, too), Squalo (Italy), Boca de Sapo (Portuguese kikkerbek) and fungal (Flanders, Norway).

The DS was on October 6, 1955 presented at the Paris Motor Show and hit like a bomb ("La Bombe Citro«n"). The car had several new features and applied techniques, which hitherto have not been combined into a car. On the first day were 12,000 orders for the new car and placed at the end of the week this number had even risen to 80,000, a number that works for large manufacturing set. Only in the course of 1956 could actually start delivering. In the meantime, a lot orders canceled. End of 1956 was a simpler version on the market: the ID.
