In 2005 Ford of America decided to revive the legend of their Ford GT 40, the car that had dominated The Le Mans 24hrs in the late 1960's. Recognising that their original design had reached global icon status, they carefully preserved all the design cues from the original but made up for some of the shortcomings by giving their new car more leg and headroom.
The European production run was set at 101 cars for Ford Europe and just 28 were officially imported by Ford Motor Company into Britain, with chassis number 1 being delivered direct to one Mr Jeremy Clarkson of BBC Top Gear, who used his as an everyday car.
This car is chassis number 2 of the 28 UK officially supplied cars and thus the first real customer car. Delivering stunning performance and looks, it will hit 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 212mph. Finished in the rare colour combination of black with black interior (and no go faster stripes'!) it is an extremely smart car physically and is totally original to the factory spec, except for the compulsory Accufab sports exhaust, which just completes the package. Serviced in April 2012 and supplied with 2 new rear tyres, this car has covered just 8,000 miles from new with 2 owners and a full service history with one of the Ford GT approved service centres.
There are no electronic gizmos, no traction control and no driver aids, so this car does deliver real driving pleasure wrapped up in an outstandingly beautiful package. There is also the added bonus of an investment opportunity with capital growth being more than likely in the long run, much like its predecessor, the legendary Ford GT 40.
It is our classic car investment tip for the future.
