Jaguar has been credited with the invention of the modern sporting saloon. During the early 1960s the Mk IIs were particularly sought after; performance and road holding was superior to most other marques and on the racetrack, they were formidable in the hands of Hawthorn, Moss and their contemporaries. As the Sixties drew to a close however, it was felt that there was a need for a more superior Jaguar, which would retain its sporting heritage, but provide a little more by way of creature comfort at the same time. Hence the 420 was introduced.

This Jaguar project has an exceedingly good, straight and solid body shell. We are informed that the motor car is virtually rust free. The chrome work is respectable and the dashboard and instruments are in good order; however, the upholstery would benefit from a retrim.

The engine and automatic gearbox are at present out of the 420, so will therefore require checking and reinstalling. We are told that all components are believed to be present.

The Jaguar is supplied with a vast history file which contains a workshop manual, the handbook and wallet, invoices, numerous past MOT test certificates and sundry papers.
