Here’s bit of a rare one; my B1 Audi 80 (Facelift) GLS Estate. 1977. Registered on 17 February 1977, it has tax until 31 Dec 2012 and MOT until 17 June 2013. I’ve spent some time getting it back on the road after it had been laid up for a few years. I’ve been using it regularly and it is now running and driving very well, however, I can’t keep it under cover anymore, which isn’t really fair on it, so I’m hoping someone will give it a new home. There was only one ‘advise’ on the MOT, which was n/s/r tyre sidewall was cracked/perished. The car is not perfect and there are a few marks on the body, including scratch on o/s wing, rust spot on roof, and n/s/r wheel arch. The tailgate has some marks, but the overall appearance is good: it had a fair bit of external cosmetic work 18 months ago and has spent most of the time since, outside; so it is lasting well. The inside is pretty good, but dash has a couple of cracks and the upright of the passenger seat is poor – hence the period seat cover! The driver’s seat back is also worn on the side bolster. The rest of the interior is good for its age. Gauges work, but fuel gauge has a bit of a mind of its own sometimes. The odometer shows 69,900, but I don’t believe this is genuine as it was only working intermittently when I first got it, but that is fixed, except I don’t reset the trip anymore and it seems fine. I’ve only done about 1,500 miles, but have used it regularly in the past few months. Its also had new bits like radiator, cam belt, wheel bearings and it is running very well now and drives nicely for a 35 year-old car. The rear wiper doesn’t work, but I’ve not looked into why: also main beam seems to have failed, but those are the only mechanical faults I’m aware of. So there it is, I’d like to see it preserved as it is and not customised: it is thought to be one of only a very few surviving estates and possibly the only ‘Facelift’ one around, so I’d like it to go to a good home!
