The MGB is a sports car launched in May 1962 to replace the MGA. Introduced as a four-cylinder roadster, a coup© with 2+2 seating was added in 1965. The MGB was a relatively modern design at the time of its introduction, utilizing a monocoque structure instead of the traditional 'body-on-frame' construction used on both the MGA and MG T-types. The lightweight design reduced manufacturing costs while adding to overall vehicle strength. Wind-up windows were standard and a comfortable driver's compartment offered plenty of legroom. The MGB's performance was considered brisk at the time of its introduction with a 0-60mph time of just over 11 seconds aided by the relatively light weight of the car. Handling was one of the MGB's strong points. The three-bearing 1798cc B-Series engine produced 95bhp at 5,400rpm and the engine was upgraded in October 1964, to a five-bearing crankshaft in an effort to improve reliability. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and passenger in a 30mph impact.

This very early MGB Roadster was built in April 1965, just before the 2+2 seating became standard, and is in very good condition throughout, finished in the classic colour combination of Old English White with red interior and matching red soft top. From the history which comes with the car, the original engine and overdrive gearbox were both overhauled about ten years ago but have had very little use since being laid up some five years ago. The vendor has had to replace the speedo due to the milometer gauge not working; the replacement speedo reads 86,000 miles and the car has done just under 91,000 in total. Having been recently re-commissioned, the car comes supplied with a V5C registration document, an MoT test certificate which expires in August 2013 and notes, invoices and old MoT test certificates going back to the 1990's; this is a very much unmolested MGB which could comfortably be used as an everyday motorcar.
