Porsche wanted to enter the Group 4 sports car class at Le Mans in 1980 and base a car on their successful 924 mainstream model. Accordingly they had to homologate 400 road cars with major upgrades which included a turbo charged engine, close ratio 5 speed gearbox, limited slip differential, wider wheel arches, bigger brakes, larger wheels and tyres, extra cooling ducts etc. In 1981 they made a total of 406 (including 6 prototypes) 924 'Carrera GT' variants with just 75 right hand drive cars produced. The car was a 150mph pocket rocket with over 210bhp on tap and sublime handling to match.
This car has had just 3 owners from new, the first being the famous Patrick Collection in Birmingham where the car was on display for over 15 years. All previous M.O.T's and a comprehensive service history confirm that the car has just covered 6,000 miles from new.
It has benefitted from a recent cambelt change, service and new tyres and has been independently inspected by P.C.T. Porsche in Coventry.
A winner of several Porsche GB Concours competitions and a car with known provenance and history make it an absolutely rock solid long term investment. It is even finished in the best colour combination of Guards Red with black velour and has a '924' registration plate that is included with the Lot.
