EXTERIOR
This CL 600 is finished in a dashing Metallic blue/purple (339 Violane) with matching colour coded bumpers. The paint work remains in good condition and much of it remains original. Due to this there are some stone chips to the front and some light chips to the door edges but after two days in our detailing bay the paintwork truly shines with a sharp, deep finish.
All of the body panels line up as they should and the chrome trim on the window surrounds remains in good condition as does the chrome detail on the front and rear bumpers with no blemishes or major scratches. Smaller details such as the badges and grille remain in great condition.
INTERIOR
Being the flagship model the 600 is packed with technology on the inside and out. The two-tone grey leather seats are in fine condition with no tears or wear to the bolsters, the rear seats remain especially clean and well-kept. The seats feel plush and commodious, equipped with an electronic memory system for full adjustment and comfort. The light wood trim laced throughout the interior gives the CL a luxurious atmosphere, stretching from the centre console around the cockpit to the rear door panels, it is all in fine condition with no blemishes or lacquer damage.
True to Mercedes build quality of the era, all of the centre console gadgets, dash and switch gear still feel solid and precise to operate, including the retro Motorola in-car phone. The CL 600 comes with a Bose speaker system which provides a superb sound quality around the cabin and excellent acoustics.
There is a grey carpet throughout the car which also extends to the lower half of the door panels and is in fine condition still remaining very clean. Towards the back of the car, the large boot space houses a spare wheel and a 6-disc CD changer.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Beneath the large bonnet of the CL and at its heart lies a monstrous 6 litre V12 engine that completely dominates the engine bay. This huge engine is incredibly smooth and seamlessly quiet from inside the cabin. Serviced by the supplying dealer all its life, the engine is in fine mechanical order and fires into life on the first turn of the key, settling to a smooth idle instantly. The 5 speed automatic gearbox engages as it should and seamlessly pulls through the gears.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The 18" Mercedes alloy wheels have recently been treated to a full refurbishment and have been finished correctly with a gleaming polished lip. They are shod in matching Bridgestone Potenza tyres. All of the brake discs remain in good condition as do the pads having recently been replaced.
HISTORY FILE
The CL 600 was first registered on the 1st of September 1997 and sold by Mercedes main dealer Denis Mahony Ltd to the first owner. It has then been serviced by the supplying dealer all its life, The first being after 1 year at 2,780 miles and at the correct intervals thereafter. The brake fluid and coolant were changed at 36,000 miles and the last inspection was a full service including replacement brake pads at 41,901 miles.
The car comes with its original Mercedes document holder containing the service booklet and owner's manuals.
