EX Racing 1949/1962 Bentley R-Type Special Reg: WFX 288 Chassis: B421EW Engine Number: 93605 Cylinders/Capacity: 8/4561cc Coachwork: Open Sports Racing The car was constructed by a Bentley engineer for his own use. The shortened chassis is fitted with a Daimler V8 (Majestic Major) engine which was famous for its exceptional torque. This 220bhp unit would power a Daimler limousine to 120mph, so with a light two-seat body and a close-ratio gearbox , it has bags of power. The car is reputed to have lapped the Brands Hatch short circuit in 59 seconds, which is under the 1958 sports car lap record! Finished in British Racing Green and black, with a black interior, the car underwent a thorough restoration from 1989-93 when it was rewired, repainted and reupholstered, the engine being stripped and rebuilt by Rees Brothers who later described it as a Caterham on steroids. It then spent a number of years in the USA where may thousands of dollars was spent on it. Fabouous fun to drive with eye-catching looks
