The 356 was really the first real production model from Porsche, and incontestably the one which put them on the world map in terms of highly desirable, sophisticated sports cars. Introduced in the mid 1950s, it embodied the hallmarks of Dr Porsche's highly individual engineering style, with a rear-mounted engine to maximize traction, a flat-four engine, and was offered, with considerable commercial success, in Coupe, Speedster, Roadster, and Cabriolet and Coupe forms during a ten-year production run.
The example offered today dates from 1963, and is one of the last Type B cars to be produced, the last to retain the tried and trusted drum braking system.
Recently imported from the United States, where the majority of production was sold new, the car has had all taxes and duties paid, and is in free circulation in the EU. It also benefits from some detailed mechanical attention, including rebuilt brake hydraulic cylinders, new brake pipes, new kingpins and bushes, and new link pins and bushes, and is offered with an almost new MOT certificate. The bodywork is offered in an appropriate shade of Baltic Grey, with black interior.
These cars have undergone a significant uplift in values in recent terms, a trend which seems likely to continue, and this example is offered in a condition ready for use but at a price level which allows an ample budget for further cosmetic improvement.
