The Founder of Lancia, Vincenzo Lancia got into the car trade when he got his first job as an apprentice at the bicycle maker Ceirano. Ceirano eventually got taken over by Fiat and they soon realized that young Vincenzo had great driving skills so he was given the job as chief test/race driver for Fiat. He was considered one of the fastest drivers of his time and often led races but very often he was let down by mechanical failure consequently he decided he could better himself and started his own company; Lancia. He was a great engineer as well and gave up racing once he thought his cars could sell on their technical brilliance instead.
The Aurelia's successor was the Flaminia which was made as a Limousine and also in coup© versions by Pininfarina, Touring and Zagato. The engine had a different block than the Aurelia with larger coolant channels but was still a narrow V6 of 2458 cc. Agates' design was very similar to the one earlier done for Lancia on the little Appia. The earliest cars didn't have exterior trim and also 99 cars were made with faired in headlights and the bumpers on these cars also had over riders.
The “Sport” was a strict 2-seater though luggage space was provided behind the seats in addition to a capacious boot, leather seats were standard and all cars had the typical “double-bubble” Zagato roof.
This car is the desirable 1962 upgraded 3C version of the Sport, the main difference being the addition of three Weber twin-barrel carburettors and a revised timing producing 140 bhp.
Chassis 3122 has remained in Italy all its life and has period Roma number plates. An older body restoration boasting original leather trim with the engine having undergone a recent restoration with less than 100 kms recorded. The owner informs us it's a beautiful car perfect for entering the many historic events that it is eligible for.
