This specific example with chassis number S830659DN is a very rare and hard to find example of an original 3.4S! Most of the original S cars have a chassis number starting with a T. The first original 3.4S cars have a chassis number starting with the more common S. Therefore you always have to check the factory records by purchasing a copy of the buildsheet from the car.
We do have the buildsheet of the XK on which it is stated that this is a genuine factory build Jaguar XK 150 3.4S. This 150S is newly delivered via Jaguar Cars in New York in 1958.
We were able to find this car some months ago. At that time, the car had a 3.8 litre engine fitted with the original 3 carburetor engine head. The original 3.4 engine was still owned by the former owner so we decided to do a complete rebuild of the 3.4 engine including the engine head so that the car becomes original as it was when it left the factory.
The outside color (Cream) is also still the original but the inside has been changed from red to black.
The car is in a nice condition. Not over the top restored but very nice.
When the engine is replaced it will be a fantastic car to drive with.
Some history about the Jaguar XK 150 is shown here below:
The Jaguar XK150 was introduced in May 1957 in Fixed Head Coupe, Drophead Coupe and Open Tourer form replacing the XK140 range. All cars used the XK140 chassis but this time the bodywork was of a much more modern appearance and for the first time featured a one piece curved windscreen. Inside the vehicle the walnut veneer on the dashboard and door cappings had been replaced with padded leather trim. Mechanically one of the main changes to the XK150 were the Dunlop disc brakes which were used both front and rear as opposed to drums which were fitted to the XK140.
The Jaguar XK 150 is because of its improvements from the XK 140 the best driver from the XK range. We drive the XK 150 quite a lot ourselves as well as an XK 140 in different rallies as the Mille Miglia.
The increased space as well as the four wheel disc brake system make the XK 150 a fantastic driver. We can imagine that this car will be used on a daily base.
The Jaguar XK 150 was available with a 3.4 and a 3.8 litre engine. Amongst that, the optional S conversion was available which resulted in an increase in power from 220 horsepower (standard 3.8 engine) towards 250 horsepower for the XK150 3.4S
The S stands for Straight port engine head. This special engine head was developed for the XK150S models and as the name implies had the ports straightened for better gas flow. It was fitted along with 3 SU carburetors, a 9:1 compression ratio and a lightened flywheel.
The Jaguar 3.4S is undeniably one of the world?s fastest classic cars, but amongst that also a very comfortable car to use for holidays. Because of the overdrive, it is a car which can bring you on a very relaxed way towards a holiday destination somewhere in a warm area.
