EQUIPMENT
Light alloy bonnet and boot lid, crumple zones, lift reducing front and rear aprons, plastic-panelled door sills, electric tilting/sliding sunroof, power-assisted steering, electrically adjustable seats and steering column, tempomat cruise control, air conditioning, separate internal temperature zones, heated washer jet nozzles, central locking, oil pressure gauge, quartz clock, exterior temperature gauge, illuminated vanity mirrors, tinted safety glass.
EXTERIOR
Finished in Signal Red, (Colour Code 568), this sleek pillarless coupe looks striking with clean powerful lines. A sporty yet elegant design that draws admiration from onlookers helps to confirm this rare car is a desirable and very individualistic Mercedes-Benz. Micro blisters on the N/S/F wing and minor imperfections commensurate with a 24 year old car do not detract from this examples beautiful bright appearance. Structurally perfect having been mostly garaged by the wealthy owner from new this vehicle is ready to be enjoyed and is not the expensive bargain that can catch many buyers out. The tools, jack, warning triangle and first aid kit are still present. The sound insulation under the bonnet has perished slightly.
INTERIOR
A pleasing, luxurious interior finished in Champignon Mushroom soft leather, (Upholstery Code 275) is wonderful. This Mercedes-Benz manages to offer a spacious atmosphere of elegance and protects the occupants in safety and style. All the trim is clean and the non-dazzle instruments all work precisely. The electrically controlled seats and steering column allow fine adjustment for motoring pleasure. The cream carpets have been protected by carpet mats from new and the leather still has a sumptuous soft feel. The headlining is tight and clean but slightly discoloured in a few areas. The undamaged wood veneer completes the look and combined with the red exterior makes this combination perfect.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Majestically smooth and instantly responsive this power plant develops 265bhp at 5200rpm enough to propel the car to 147mph yet still return 32.1mpg at a constant 56mph, (source: Mercedes-Benz Technical Data July 1989). Thanks to quality engineering and regular maintenance the engine will continue to offer legendary durability. The 4-speed automatic with programme selector and tempomat cruise control is seamless.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES.
This example is fitted with the 15-inch optional light alloy wheels which are in good overall condition but slight signs of aging can be seen. Quality front Michelin Pilot Primacy and rear Continental Super Contact 205/65 R15 tyres are fitted with decent tread. Highly efficient dual-circuit servo-braking with fixed caliper disc brakes on all four wheels, a brake booster and ABS offer immense braking power.
